Preparing the Way for Future Wolverines!

Dear Friends of Waukesha West Athletics,

It is with great excitement that I announce the creation of the Waukesha West Athletic Endowment Fund. The purpose of our endowment fund is to invest in and plan for the future of Waukesha West Athletics now, such that funds donated can multiply through the earnings of an investment account. We believe taking a more strategic and proactive approach will allow this fund to provide substantially for our student-athletes for many years to come.
In May 2014 we “crossed the finish line” for our Fields of Many Dreams project. This initiative to install synthetic turf at all three Waukesha High Schools carried a price tag of $1.5 million. The project endured many obstacles along the way due to a troublesome economy, lack of clarity around the project, and unrealistic expectations. Although we are elated three years later to see turf installed at West High School, we also hope to never go through the same fundraising process ever again. We believe the start of our endowment fund will be the strategic answer in making future dreams come true.

At the collegiate level endowment funds are widely used, and the tool has proven to meet the demands of successful athletic programs. As we begin the Waukesha West Athletic Endowment Fund (WWAEF), West High School will be one of the only public schools in the state to operate an endowment fund. This forward-thinking approach will enable us to continue improving the student-athlete experience our children deserve.

Waukesha West High School proudly coordinates 28 athletic teams and clubs. Since our school opened for the 1993-1994 school year, the Wolverines have established a strong foundation of excellence, including 22 state championships and 69 conference championships. As you read this letter, I am certain that Waukesha West Athletics have made a positive impact on the lives of you and your loved ones as a participant, parent, or fan. I encourage you to consider giving back through the WWAEF in order to ensure that future Wolverines are able to celebrate the same type of experience that you have enjoyed.

The harsh reality of public school athletics is that our budget only continues to shrink. In order to maximize the student-athlete experience in the manner that our children deserve, private funding sources have become more and more critical. We believe that taking a strategic approach to raising and investing funds over the long term is a far superior to raising funds on a project by project basis as individual project needs arise.

Please thoughtfully consider a strategic investment in the future and become a Waukesha West Advocate by contributing to the Athletic Endowment Fund. The future will be bright with your partnership!

Go Wolverines!

More Information

Our Purpose

The Waukesha West Athletic Endowment fund was created in June 2014 in order to:

  • Consistently raise funds over time ear-marked for capital improvement
  • Provide future financial security for Waukesha West’s 28 Athletic programs during a time when budgets continue to shrink for high school athletics
  • Take a proactive approach to fundraising, rather than attempting to raise large amounts of money in a short timeframe (i.e. the turf project)
  • Enhance the student-athlete experience for future Wolverines!

Please consider joining this strategic investment opportunity for Waukesha West Athletics now!

Our Plan

Donations made to the Waukesha West Athletic Endowment Fund (WWAEF) are placed into an investment account managed by Merrill Lynch, whereas the interest generated will provide supplementary support for West Athletic programs.  It is the intention of the WWAEF to never use the principle, but rather to award portions of the interest generated in an increasing amount over time.

Phase 1 –
Accumulation: Years 1-3 – No Funds Used
Phase 2 –
Partial Spending: Years 4-7 – Maximum spending 50% of investment account gains
Phase 3 –
Fully Operational: Years 8+ – Maximum spending 90% of investment account gains

Our Projections

As the WWAEF grows in principle over time, the earned interest has the potential to make a significant impact for West Athletics!

In 2024, if we have met a goal of $250,000 in principle fundraising, the earned interest would be approximately $25,000 annually!  If we meet a goal of $500,000 raised, the earned interest would be approximately $50,000 annually!  Just think of the dramatic change that can take place with the aid of these funds.
